A Little Too Quite

July 2, 2008

Have you ever had the feeling that things were a little to quiet? Well, yesterday as I sat at my computer trying to get a few things done, I suddenly had that feeling. Jackson had been sitting on the floor playing with cars, but as I began to type, I felt like something wasn't quite right. I turned around a found him like this....(doesn't he look so guilty?!)

What a crack up! He was having so much fun laying up on top of the bolts of fabric playing with it. He is usually so noisy when he drives his cars around, but as he laid on top of the fabric there wasn't any noise at all. When I turned around and asked him what he was doing. He said, "Mommy Mad Jackson?" I smiled and said no. His eyes lit up and he had about a million things he was wanting to tell me all at once (about climbing up there and how he could drive his cars laying down or sitting up, through the tunnels and over the bumps...). What an exciting adventure he was having.

As much fun as he is having with the fabric that consumes his life, lets all keep our fingers crossed that it is all out of my hands in the nest few weeks. :)

Too Many Aprons

June 23, 2008

So....its official my son hears too much about aprons. Remember recently when he would always request to wear an apron, lets revisit that moment....

Then yesterday as I was getting him breakfast and talking to my brother about the aprons and the website etc, when my brother asked me for the web address. Before I could get the whole thing out of my mouth, my son, shouted "Aprons dot com!" And busted up laughing. I guess it might mean a couple of things...too much internet in my life or too many aprons. Or maybe both! :)

A few questions...

....and a Few Answers:

Not that I know everything, but here it goes!

How many aprons do you make in a week?
It defers from week to week, but I try to keep it to less than four, just for my own stress level. I've still got to be a mom and naptime only lasts so long. :) It seems that there are larger rushes close to the holidays (Christmas, Valentines Day, and Mothers Day) and during those weeks I tend to take on WAY too much. :)

How much fabric do you buy at a time?

Well, this is actually the first time I have bought fabric by the bolt, so we will learn together. Right now I am buying enough fabric to make about 300 of each apron style. That's what I call a heck of a lot of fabric! And one nervous girl....the good kind of nervous right?! :)

How much fabric do you currently have?

Way too much! :) I'm sure that is what my husband would say. I tend to go into fabric stores ready to buy enough fabric for just one apron and come out with arm fulls...oops. It just soooo hard to choose sometimes. Okay, back to the question currently in my possession I own...124 Bolts (that's 1860 yards of fabric) with about that much still on its ways. Crazy.

How many aprons do you make ahead of time?
I used to be WAY more on the ball than I am currently and maybe it is because we just had mother's day, but currently I only have one of each style in stock. When I was more on top of things I had about 3-4 of each style in stock. Still not much, but it just helps so I am not in a huge rush if I have an order.

The AWESOME pictures you had taken, what are they for?
You can see the pictures here.
They were/are for a catalog I put together. I put a catalog together and have sent it out to some really awesome, BIG companies that might be interested in carrying the aprons. I'll keep you posted on what is decided there, for now just keep your fingers crossed.

What kind of fabric do you like to use for your aprons (100% Cotton etc)?
I love 100% cotton! Because I love the feel and the quality. It does depend on what your project is, but almost always you can find what you need in a quilt store. You also mentioned that you feel like your projects come out feeling cheap or look thin, I have to say most aprons out there are that way too, but I really have a hard time cutting quality and end up LINING everything, which really helps make something feel higher in the quality department.

Loads of Firsts

The first time.....

I've posted on the new blog.
I've bought fabric by the bolt.
I've been willing to open up and share a little behind the scenes at Epicurean Style.
I've ever been able to say I have a manufacturer.
I've been a mom and tried to juggle a business into the mix.
I've felt myself so excited that I might burst, but so nervous my heart might pound out of its spot.

We've got a whole lotta firsts going on around here, all good, but maybe just a tad-bit unnerving at the same time.

I am excited to present you with a place where you can find all the information you could ever possibly want (possibly more information than you could ever want) about Epicurean Style.

This will be a place for updates, inquires, information, inspiration, and free giveaways.

I am delighted to have a place to share ideas and thoughts.

It seems anytime I post information about Epicurean Style on my personal blog, that I get an overwhelming positive response from everyone. I feel your support and I hear your questions, but have always been torn as to whether or not post information on the "family blog" about the business side of life. So it came to me, make a space all of its own (um, duh.)

I can't promise that I am the most intriguing writer you have ever read and I can't promise things will always go smoothly, but I can promise a unique behind the scenes perspective on my life and Epicurean Style. I can also promise free giveaways and promises to answer as many of your questions as possible.

So...WeLcOMe to my new blog "Epicurean Style" and thank you for looking, reading, and sharing your comments. Please come back often.
